OncoFirm is an early-stage company and has not yet been the subject of independent coverage. If you are working on a story about point-of-care diagnostics, earlier cancer detection, or what fluorescence and AI add to rapid tests, we're glad to provide background, a technical briefing, or an interview with the founder.
Story angles we can speak to
- Cancer biomarker testing outside the central lab. What it takes to move a test from a hospital laboratory to a clinic, a pharmacy, or a field program.
- What fluorescence adds to a lateral flow test. Why a digitally read fluorescent signal differs from the visible line on a familiar rapid test.
- AI-assisted reading of rapid tests. Where software can help with signal interpretation, quality control, and decision support - and where it can't yet.
- Veterinary oncology at the point of care. Affordable cancer screening for companion animals as a parallel application.
- Building a diagnostics company. Lessons from the founder's prior experience scaling a global rapid-test and medical device business.

How the OncoFirm platform is designed to work
A rapid test in a familiar format, read by an instrument instead of the eye. Everything below describes intended functionality of a platform in development.
-
A sample is applied
The sample enters the well of a single-use cassette and moves along the test strip by capillary action - the same principle as familiar rapid tests.
-
Antibodies capture the target
Immune complexes form as the sample crosses the strip and are captured at the test line; fluorescent labels bind where the target biomarker is present. A control line confirms the test ran.
-
A reader measures the signal
Instead of a visible color change, a digital reader excites the fluorescent labels with controlled light and measures the emitted intensity with high-sensitivity sensors, producing a standardized digital result.
-
Software interprets and connects
Embedded software handles normalization, calibration, and quality control, with connectivity to laboratory and health-record systems. AI-assisted interpretation and decision support are planned capabilities.
Why fluorescence, in the company's words
Fluorescence-based platforms may provide objective digital measurement, quantitative or semi-quantitative analysis, reduced observer variability, and multiplex biomarker capability. OncoFirm's own caveat: the extent of these advantages depends on assay design, instrumentation, and clinical validation. The platform is designed to complement, not replace, established laboratory diagnostics.
Biomarkers and pipeline concepts
The platform targets tumor-associated antigens and protein biomarkers; the April 2025 launch announcement cited Thomsen-Friedenreich (TF) and Gal-GalNAc antigens and named pipeline concepts for colorectal and pancreatic (OncoFirm™-R), breast and ovarian (OncoScreen-B), lung (OncoFirm™-L), prostate (OncoFirm™-PSA), liver (OncoFirm™-AFP), and gastrointestinal cancers (OncoFirm™-CEA), plus a multiplex test (OncoFirm™ MultiDx). All are concept-stage. No performance data have been published.
Quotable, as published
Attribute to Jonathan Adam Barash, Founder & CEO, OncoFirm™ Diagnostics Corporation. Need a quote on a specific angle? Ask - we usually turn one around the same day.
"Our mission is to democratize early cancer detection. By leveraging our antigen-driven technology, we're equipping healthcare providers with fast, affordable, and accessible tools to detect cancer earlier-even in settings without traditional laboratory infrastructure."
"Our intellectual property strategy is one of the cornerstones of our business. Filing six patent applications and three trademark applications demonstrates our commitment to building a world-class diagnostics company focused on innovation, scientific excellence, and technologies that have the potential to improve cancer detection worldwide. While this is an important milestone, we believe it is only the beginning."
"Lateral flow tests have already proven they can bring testing to the point of care. Our work is about giving that format the objectivity of a laboratory measurement - a fluorescent signal, a digital reader, and software that helps clinicians interpret what they're seeing."

Questions we're asked most
Can I buy an OncoFirm test today? Is anything approved?
No. OncoFirm's products and technologies are in development. Nothing has been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any other regulatory authority, and no product is available for sale. Please describe the company as "development-stage" and its platform as "in development" or "investigational."
In one sentence, what is OncoFirm building?
A rapid cancer-diagnostic platform that pairs fluorescent lateral flow tests with a digital reader and AI-assisted software, intended to make cancer biomarker testing faster, more objective, and usable at the point of care.
How is this different from a standard rapid test?
A standard lateral flow test shows a colored line that a person reads by eye. OncoFirm's design uses fluorescent labels that are measured by an instrument under controlled light, which the company expects may allow objective digital measurement, quantitative or semi-quantitative results, and several biomarkers on one strip. OncoFirm's own caveat is that the extent of those advantages depends on assay design, instrumentation, and clinical validation.
Which cancers, and how accurate is it?
The platform targets tumor-associated antigens and protein biomarkers. Pipeline concepts named at launch span colorectal, pancreatic, breast, ovarian, lung, prostate, liver, and gastrointestinal cancers, plus a multiplex test. No clinical performance data have been published, so please don't cite sensitivity, specificity, or accuracy figures for OncoFirm's platform.
Where is OncoFirm in development?
The company describes a five-phase roadmap: biomarker and assay research, prototype and reader integration, analytical validation, clinical feasibility, and regulatory review and scale-up. It has not announced dates for those phases. In August 2026 it announced six patent applications and three trademark applications covering the platform.
Is OncoFirm public? Who funds it?
OncoFirm™ Diagnostics Corporation is privately held and headquartered in Port Washington, New York. It pursues grants, strategic investment, sponsored research, licensing, and co-development. Investor inquiries go through investor.oncofirm.com; nothing in this kit is an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy securities.
Does the platform have uses beyond human medicine?
Yes. OncoFirm is also developing point-of-care cancer screening concepts for veterinary oncology, aimed at affordable testing for companion animals.
Are the device images real?
They are concept renderings that illustrate intended functionality. Please run them with the mandatory caption in the Images section.
Can I interview the founder or visit the company?
Interviews with Jonathan Adam Barash, Founder and CEO, are available by phone, video, or in person in the New York area. Contact details are at the top and bottom of this page.
