Ting-Wen Lo, PhD
Dr. Ting-Wen Lo is a biomedical researcher and chemical engineer with extensive experience in microfluidics, in vitro diagnostic technologies, biomarker analysis, molecular biology, and the development of point-of-care diagnostic platforms.
Dr. Lo currently serves as a Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic, where his work focuses on the development and optimization of droplet-based and digital microfluidic devices for biomarker monitoring in patient samples. His research includes the integration of digital microfluidic systems with electrochemical sensors for the isolation and detection of extracellular vesicles, as well as the development of surface chemistries and microfluidic methods designed to support rapid biomarker detection.
Previously, Dr. Lo worked as an R&D Biomedical Engineer at Eurofins ARCA Technology, where he contributed to the development of in vitro diagnostic devices for infectious diseases. His work included integrating microfluidic technologies with nucleic-acid amplification assays, developing and optimizing LAMP-based assays for point-of-care applications, evaluating microfluidic cartridge performance, developing device protocols and specifications, and participating in medical-device risk management and design failure mode and effects analysis.
Dr. Lo also has significant experience in cancer biomarker research. At the University of Michigan, his research included the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles and circulating tumor cells from patient samples. He developed microfluidic approaches for analyzing cancer-associated biomarkers and performed single-cell gene-expression and mutation profiling of circulating tumor cells from patients with lung cancer.
His technical expertise includes microfabrication, photolithography, microfluidic device development, surface functionalization, bioconjugation, fluorescence microscopy, molecular assay development, digital PCR, qRT-PCR, LAMP, immunofluorescence, protein and nucleic-acid analysis, extracellular vesicles, and circulating tumor cells.
Dr. Lo earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
He is also an accomplished scientific author whose published research spans cancer diagnostics, extracellular vesicles, circulating tumor cells, microfluidic technologies, and biosensor systems. His work has appeared in publications including Nature Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Science, Lab on a Chip, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, and other peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Dr. Lo’s multidisciplinary background in microfluidics, biomarker detection, diagnostic-device development, and point-of-care technologies brings valuable scientific and engineering expertise to the advancement of next-generation diagnostic platforms.
